What a good AI receptionist actually says

The fastest way to build a bad phone agent is to write it a script. Callers don't follow scripts. They interrupt, they ramble, they ask whether you take their insurance before they've said their name.

So we don't script. We give the agent a role, a knowledge base, and a set of hard boundaries — what it may promise, what it must never guess, and when it hands off to a human.

A dental clinic agent will confirm appointment availability but never diagnose. A plumbing agent will quote a call-out fee but never a repair total. A salon agent will move a booking but never issue a refund. Those edges are the product.

Handoff design matters just as much. A warm transfer with a two-sentence summary beats a cold transfer every time, and a caller who is told 'I'm getting Maria, she'll have your file open' stays on the line.

Good agents sound unremarkable. That's the goal — a caller who hangs up having gotten what they needed and no strong feelings about the technology.
